Back in 2006, I released my first Mandarin jazz EP, Only For You. The project was produced by Pheobus Chan and arranged by my talented cousin, renowned jazz guitarist Lawrence Ku. The five-song EP blends Mandarin lyrics with jazz influences and was especially meaningful to me because it brought together a group of friends to create the music.

The title track, Only For You, was originally written by me in English as a tribute to my mother, the legendary actress Cheng Pei-pei. The song was later beautifully translated into Mandarin by lyricist Ursule Wong.

The EP also features The Outside World, written by David Quah; You Were There Along the Way, with music by Robert Vicentio; What Is Love, written by Chun Muk; and Love Coffee, with music by one of my dearest friends, Bo Young Kwon and lyrics by Ursule Wong.

Only For You marked the beginning of my recording journey and reflects my early passion for jazz. While it remains my first studio release, it certainly won’t be the last. Now based in Marrakech, I am continuing to pursue my love of jazz singing while writing and performing new music.

“Singing has always been a passion of mine. When I was little I used to lock myself up in my room and sing songs from Les Mis and Miss Saigon. I dreamed about being on stage one day. There is something that is just so magical about performing on stage in front of a live audience. “
